For Your Appointment
Please carefully read the information below in preparation for your client appointment at the Open Door Exchange Warehouse.
About Open Door Exchange (ODE)
Please be aware that Open Door Exchange is a furniture bank, which means that we collect donations of gently used furniture and distribute them to people in need, in crisis, or in a life transition at no cost. We operate primarily through volunteers and 2 staff members.
All of our items are secondhand, but we adhere to quality standards for the furniture we accept and offer. The furniture is completely free to take. The quantity of items a client is allowed to take depends on the current inventory and the total number of family members in their household.
We cannot guarantee inventory of any specifically requested items for your visit, but we receive donations on an ongoing basis.
Directions
Our warehouse is located at 200 Wilson Street, Building G, Port Jefferson Station. Click here for directions with photos.
To reach our warehouse, turn onto Wilson Street and pass Sunshine Laundromat and Xplore Fun Center. Drive into the parking lot for the Port Jefferson Business Center and continue around to the back side of the complex by passing Backstage Studio of Dance and Bond Audio. Turn right after Bond Audio and drive all the way to the end. Our warehouse is a stand-alone brick building at the very back of the business center.

When You Arrive
Enter through the door next to our garage door. You do not need to bring ID or any other paperwork to your appointment.
We will have a short intake form for you to fill out. It's just basic demographic information (name, date of birth, address, etc).
If there are any questions you do not want to answer, feel free to skip over them!

A volunteer will be assigned to you and help you in selecting furniture.
Taking Your Furniture Home
Since we primarily operate through volunteers, Open Door Exchange cannot provide delivery or moving services for clients. We cannot always guarantee that warehouse volunteers are capable of lifting or loading furniture into your vehicle.
Clients are required to provide their own transportation and movers to bring furniture items home, which can be a truck, SUV, or any vehicle, and family and friends to lift pieces with you. If you do not have this for the first appointment, no problem! Once an item is tagged for you, you will have one week from that date to pick it up from there.
Unfortunately, we cannot hold it beyond one week and cannot make special exceptions.
