ABOUT OPEN DOOR EXCHANGE
Founded in 2015 as the first furniture bank on Long Island, Open Door Exchange (ODE) connects donated furniture to individuals and families in need, in crisis, or in a life transition, at no cost. We believe that furniture is necessary to building a safe and comfortable home for all.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The Director of Development and Fundraising leads the organization, in collaboration with the ODE Steering Committee, by providing thoughtful strategic visioning that promotes the mission of Open Door Exchange.

The Director of Development and Fundraising will maintain and cultivate resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the organization and its growth objectives.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES
 

Organizational Direction and Growth

  • Lead long-term visioning and strategic planning in collaboration with the ODE Steering Committee.

  • Identify and evaluate financially viable options for an updated operational space in partnership with the ODE Ad Hoc Expansion Committee.

  • Cultivate strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to advance the organization’s mission. 
     

Fundraising and Development 

  • Collaborate with the ODE Steering Committee and staff to develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising plan to meet financial needs and support growth objectives.

  • Establish and pursue diverse fundraising strategies, including major gifts, individual donations, corporate giving, grants, and planned giving programs.

  • Identify and educate donors and prospects about the mission of ODE.

  • Track and manage gifts from various sources via Salesforce. 


Community Outreach and Events

  • Organize and coordinate small and large-scale events in collaboration with the ODE Steering Committee and volunteer base, which includes annual fundraisers, capital campaigns, presentations, and partnership engagement opportunities.

  • Cultivate and strengthen local partnerships and relationships with Long Island businesses, corporations, foundations, universities, community groups, corporate groups, and community-based organizations.

  • Design a variety of outreach content around donor communications (social media, email campaigns, direct mailings etc) in collaboration with other staff.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree with preference for an advanced degree in a related field (Nonprofit Management, Communications, Marketing, etc.) or equivalent experience

  • Demonstrated experience in Organizational Leadership

  • Proven expertise in successfully cultivating and developing campaigns and donor initiatives, as well as strategic partnerships and resources within the Long Island community 

  • Comfort with high net-worth donors 

  • Superior communication skills (oral, written, and listening) 

  • Office management and computer skills, including fluency with Excel, Google Docs, Canva, and Salesforce

  • Ability and willingness to interact respectfully with diverse demographics in a variety of settings (clients, volunteers, community leaders, students, etc.)

Job Type: Full-Time, 40 hours per week

Salary: $75-80k, commensurate with experience. Benefits are included.

Work Location: Hybrid opportunity (In-person office located in Setauket, NY, with partial remote work to be determined)
